At Henry & Henry, we believe that friendship is more than a social nicety—it’s a vital part of a meaningful, fulfilling life. For many adults with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities (I/DD), opportunities to build genuine, lasting friendships can be rare. Social isolation is a real and growing concern, especially after aging out of the school system. That’s where Henry & Henry steps in—not just as a day program, but as a thriving community.

A Safe and Social Environment
Our adult day activity program is built around intentional, person-centered activities that foster social interaction. Whether it’s sharing laughs during arts and crafts, dancing at our monthly birthday celebrations, or simply chatting over lunch, participants are encouraged to express themselves, connect with peers, and practice communication in a supportive environment.
We don’t push friendships—they grow naturally here. Because we offer multiple activities at the same time, participants can explore shared interests with others, which lays the foundation for real connections. From game show days and talent shows to yoga sessions and social media workshops, there are so many ways for participants to shine together.
A Participant’s Story: More Than a Program
One of our participants, Marcus, had a particularly difficult time adjusting to life after high school. His mother, Lisa, shared this reflection on what Henry & Henry has meant to their family:
“Before Marcus joined Henry & Henry, he was very isolated. He spent most days at home with me or his caregiver, and he rarely spoke unless spoken to. He didn’t really have friends his age anymore, and I could see the loneliness setting in. Within a few months of starting the program, Marcus came home talking about his new friend, Kevin. They bonded over photography and now they even write articles together for the newsletter. Seeing him light up when he talks about his day—and the people in it—has been the biggest gift. Henry & Henry didn’t just help Marcus find a routine. They helped him find a friend.”
Community Beyond the Program
Friendships at Henry & Henry often extend beyond our doors. Some participants keep in touch on social media, attend weekend events together, and even celebrate birthdays outside of the program. We also work with families to support social interaction at home—providing tips and tools to keep the connection going.
Why Friendships Matter
Real friendships provide emotional support, boost confidence, and help develop vital communication skills. For individuals with I/DD, the benefits are especially impactful. We’ve seen participants become more engaged, more expressive, and more independent—just by having someone to call a friend.
If you or a loved one is looking for a place where people genuinely connect and grow together, we invite you to visit Henry & Henry. Friendship is waiting.
